Why do potential employers require a residence (street address) on applications? Most online applications specifically require a street address for residence. I have always been careful about my personal information, and I do not see why it is necessary to ask for my street address.

You are entering into a legal contract with the employer for the provision of services. They are entitled to know the legal name of the person providing that work. I can’t see any right in your name being considered private information within your organisation. People have a right to know who they are dealing with.

With professional references, you should use their work address. But if they are not working because they retired, then it’s alright to use their home address provided they’re ok with it. Aaron, In my experience it is usually business addresses for skill references while home addresses for character references.

You can use your legal name when you fill out paperwork when hired. Otherwise, save us from the guessing games please! I had an applicant go by a totally different name than what was on her resume. It was listed as Mary but when I called her, she answered the phone “This is Diane”. When I explained I was looking for Mary, she told me she was Mary.
